THESES

Tadeusz Kościuszko is undoubtedly a prominent figure of great renown. He is considered a national hero whose merits are unquestionable. In every Polish town there are streets, squares, boulevards named in his honor. He is the patron of thousands of schools and universities as the embodiment of patriotism. He also distinguished himself in the United States and many associations and foundations are named after him as a symbol of an ingenious strategist, excellent soldier and politician. His statues, portraits and medallions are valuable artworks as their authors were often remarkable artists. His portraits appear on banknotes, stamps or coins. Some films, including documentaries, have also been made about him. He appears in many works of literature as a model of courage and full commitment to the cause.
Given the above, can we still expect the figure of Tadeusz Kosciuszko to raise interest and inspire research? Has everything about him been written, sculpted or painted? Apparently, notwithstanding the popularity of this distinguished Pole, there are still areas to be explored, facts to be added or corrected, investigation topics to be extended.
It seems important to distinguish between two areas of knowledge concerning this historical figure, firstly, his biography and, secondly, his achievements which make him a patron and symbol of many initiatives, institutions and sites in the fields of art, architecture and history.
Therefore it is planned to organize the discussion and research presentation around the following areas of knowledge:

- The figure of Tadeusz Kosciuszko: biographical facts, struggle for independence, the uprising, emigration
- Patron of Cracow University of Technology as a symbol of science, technology, education
- Tadeusz Kościuszko in art: drawings, painting, sculpture, medal making, film, literature
- Military achievements: fortifications, military strategy.
